President's Message

Hello Chapter Members,

Don’t miss the boat! Wednesday June 7th aboard the Yacht Starship MPI Tampa Bay Area will celebrate a great year and award many deserving members, volunteers and sponsors with a Night in White! The Awards Night Committee has created such an extraordinary evening and you will not want to miss out on the best Silent Auction I have laid eyes on… the packages vary from staycations to destinations that we all love! It will be a great evening celebrating our members and sponsors and also honoring the beloved Margaret Williams! Full details are available on the chapter website www.mpitampabayarea.org! We are so proud of all of the accomplishments our chapter has done this past year and I look forward to celebrating these successes with you all at the Awards Night!

In May MPITBA had two great programs with MPI After 5 Escape Countdown Sarasota and our final education program for our fiscal year at the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach with Ms Erin Fuller. Both delivered laughs and great networking for members, new members and guests! I am looking forward to our upcoming Community Outreach Event on June 25th at Steinbrenner Field for All Star Day where we are partnering with Big Brother Big Sisters to give children that are a part of the program a fun and unforgettable day at the ball park! The committee has been working hard to ensure a successful event and we look forward to seeing everyone there! I know school is out but we never stop with Educational Programming! On July 26th The Florida Aquarium will be hosting the July Educational Luncheon in the new Mosaic Center, the space is remarkable and the content the education committee is developing cannot be missed! Check out the Website for details!

MPI Global and your four Florida MPI Chapters have action packed conferences this summer as well. WEC 2018 held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas kcks off June 17th and I recently read that they not only added new speakers but also announced that Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are performing, very cool! SES (Sunshine Education Summit) at the Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedre put on by the 4 Florida MPI chapters is going to be an exciting 3 days of networking and early bird rates are available through the end of June! Check out the website for speakers and registration http://www.mpises.org/.

“Summer- Hair gets lighter, skin gets darker, water gets warmer, drinks get colder, music gets louder, nights get longer… and life gets better- Unknown.” Have an incredible day and I look forward to seeing you at one of our many upcoming opportunities soon!

Chapter Community Outreach Event

Make a difference in a child’s life with just a few hours, a few dollars

Our chapter has chosen Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay as the charitable organization for our community outreach event.

Date: Sunday, June 25

Location: Steinbrenner Field

Arrival time for volunteers & sponsors: 12:30

Game time: 1:00

Post-game activities in and around the pavilion

End time: approximately 5:30

Visiting team: Dunedin Blue Jays

MPI Tampa Bay Area chapter making a difference in children’s lives, and so can you, for just $10!

The Tampa Bay Area chapter of Meeting Professionals (MPITBA) is hosting children waiting for an adult mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters Tampa Bay (BBBSTBA) for a day of fun at a Tampa Yankees v. Dunedin Blue Jays game at 1:00 pm at newly-renovated Steinbrenner Field Sunday, June 25th. And everyone is invited!

Events like this one make their wait more bearable. The kids will get an event t-shirt, food voucher, and a Tampa Yankees hat, then be matched with an adult volunteer for the afternoon, under the supervision of BBBSTB staff (adults who become Bigs undergo a complete background check). They’ll watch the game in a special section in the newly-renovated stadium. They’ll participate in events on the field like running the bases, throwing out a pitch, and other games with Blue the mascot. After the game, the kids will go with their “Bigs for a  day” into the pavilion where it’ll be all about them, with entertainment and prizes donated by the members of MPITBA (raffle prizes, cornhole games, music, food and drink, photo booth, professional photographer (with images available at no charge to parents after the event), a wind machine (where they’ll grab for as many raffle tickets as their little hands can get!), and a swag bag on the way out with more treats to help them remember the special day).

For just $10: Sponsor a Little who is waiting for a mentor. They’re children facing adversity, many living below the poverty level, many living with just one parent, many with a parent incarcerated, many in foster care. They’re waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister or Big Couple to help them succeed in life. And sometimes they wait for a very long time.

(Click “Continue as Guest”)

Or for just $15: Go to the game and get a food voucher and Tampa Yankees hat! And a portion of ticket sales will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters, since the day is also a fundraiser. Once in the stadium, there will be raffle tickets available toward a 50/50 raffle (winner keeps 50% of the money raised and the other 50% goes to Big Brothers Big Sisters Tampa Bay), a Sheraton Sand Key stay, and a Yogi Berra collector’s piece. MPITBA will make a check presentation to BBBSTB at the end of the game.
