President's Message

Hello Chapter Members,

I think I speak for everyone when I say I am over Hurricane season this year! Our hearts go out to the victims of this year’s strong and fierce Hurricane season. The impacts of Hurricane Harvey to the Houston Metro Area and southeast Texas were undoubtedly catastrophic and the worst this country has ever seen. Not even a week later Hurricane Irma devastated the Islands, Keys and ripped through Florida. Unfortunately, the Atlantic is busy brewing up a few more hurricanes so my positive thoughts are with everyone that we make it through with minimal impacts!

Following Hurricane Harvey I reached out to MPI Houston Area Chapter President Gabe Garza who shared with me that the MPI Houston Area Chapter Board of Directors established the MPI Houston Area Chapter Disaster Relief Fund. Funds collected will provide assistance to members of the MPI Houston Area Chapter directly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Their goal is to collect funds through September 30, 2017 and donate funds soon after. Everyone in the MPI community is invited to help their members who are struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey by donating to the MPI Houston Area Chapter Disaster Relief Fund. For further details contact MPI-HA Chapter Administrator, Shannon Smith at chapteradmin@mpihouston.org.

President and CEO of MPI Paul Van Deventer reached out to me following Hurricane Irma to ensure our Chapter Members were ok and to express support from MPI Global. At the time of his call and at the time of me writing this letter I feel lucky that I have not heard of catastrophic damages experienced by our members or fellow Florida MPI members. I hope that is the case but if not we do intend on a community outreach initiative for people affected by the 2017 Hurricane Season. We did cancel the MPI After 5- SOS Networking event and the September Education program however both will be rescheduled. Please keep checking our website and Facebook page for updates and new events once plans are finalized. Our community and Chapter is incredibly strong and resilient, I am proud to be a Floridian and your Chapter President!

I can see clearly now the rain is gone, I can see all obstacles in my way

Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind, It's gonna be a bright (bright), Bright (bright) sunshiny day

Have a wonderful September, Fall and everything Pumpkin Spice is near!

Cheers-

Ashley Valentine, CMP

MPI Tampa Bay Area Chapter President

This new and improved program will allow you the ultimate exposure for your business, venue or property during the monthly education programs.

This is a call to action for everyone. We are searching for Out-of-Industry Sponsors for events. If each of you could provide us with just one prospect, we can reach our goal, and add value to our meetings.

So we are asking for referral and leads from each of you. It could be clients, financial planners, gyms, veterinarians, insurance, or any company that would bring benefit to our organization, and would like to address the awesome buying power of MPI.

Please send at least one prospective lead to Wayne Childs – wchilds@plantationoncrystalriver.com

Thank you for your help and support!

Committee and Other News

 #HoustonStrong | #TexasStrong | #PrayersforHouston

Dear Industry Colleagues & Friends-

It is difficult for me to put into words how I am feeling and I know I speak for many of you as well. I never imagined I would be addressing the MPI Houston community following the nation’s worst natural disaster to date. Mentally, I am drained. We have worried about our families, friends, neighbors, colleagues and our great community. The impacts of Hurricane Harvey to the Houston Metro Area and southeast Texas were undoubtedly catastrophic and the worst this country has ever seen.

On behalf of the MPI Houston Area Chapter Board of Directors, our hearts go out to the victims of this week’s tragic events in the greater Houston area and southeast Texas.

In the midst of watching this horrific event unfold before our eyes I was reminded of how proud I am to be a Texan and to call Houston home. The immediate outpouring of support by neighbors and other fellow Houstonians and Texans has been incredible and uplifting. It is a true testament of the people of this city, state and country. We applaud our colleagues in the hospitality community who have already made donations, committed their time and started the hard work to begin rebuilding our great city.

The MPI Houston Area Chapter Board of Directors is poised to take this to the next level. With that being said, we have established the MPI Houston Area Chapter Disaster Relief Fund. Funds collected will provide assistance to members of the MPI Houston Area Chapter directly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Our goal is to collect funds through September 30, 2017 and donate funds soon after. To donate now, visit our YouCaring webpage.

If you or another MPI member you know has been directly impacted by Hurricane Harvey please share and submit your story to our Chapter Administrator, Shannon Smith, atchapteradmin@mpihouston.org. Please be sure to include complete contact information, damage details, and photos.

We have been so fortunate to receive emails of concern and support from MPI Chapters around the United States including MPI President & CEO, Paul Van Deventer. We invite everyone in the MPI community to help our colleagues who are struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey by donating to the MPI Houston Area Chapter Disaster Relief Fund.

In the words of Texans defensive end, JJ Watt, “Houston’s a great city. We’re going to come out of this stronger than ever”. Stay strong my friends, we are all in this together!

Forever grateful,

Gabe Garza

President, MPI Houston Area Chapter

*Note: The MPI Houston Area Chapter established the MPI Houston Area Chapter Disaster Relief Fund to assist recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey. The MPI Houston Area Chapter will collect funds through September 30, 2017. Funds collected through the MPI Houston Disaster Relief Fund will provide assistance to members of MPI Houston Area Chapter directly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Recipients must reside in the greater Houston area and provide proof of damage to personal property or business. The funds raised will be distributed to MPI Houston members in need, based on the policies that have been outlined by the board of directors. For further details contact our Chapter Administrator, Shannon Smith at chapteradmin@mpihouston.org.
